Porter Ale House & Gastropub- Brunchin'

So, Sunday brunch is a pretty big thing in Austin, which was something new to me when I first moved here. Brunch was definitely an amazing invention thanks to my generation of weekend-late-morning-sleepers. Like I've said before, when it comes to my decision making for any restaurant galavanting, I might as well try and make a decision a week in advance. Because that never happens, my decisions are usually made in some sort of hangry desperation. After finally arriving at that decision, there's always that other big question punching your gut as you read the menu....savory or sweet?!

Alas, at least this weekend turned into a success!

Porter Ale House & Gastropub

This little sport's bar on South 1st was pretty adorable inside, with random little fairy succulent gardens scattered about and really cool iron light bulb chandeliers. It was also really nice to find someplace in Austin without a wait! Brunching on Sundays can come with a hefty wait time, depending on what part of town you're in. Luckily, we walked right in and sat down. They had modern, rustic feel to the long, narrow space and even a cute little mimosa/bloody mary bar. I really enjoyed the floor-to-ceiling windows that provided all that glorious natural lighting (I'm a sucker for lots of natural light).

Jeremy got the Tater Tot Poutine, which was covered with mushrooms, Velouté sauce (one of the five sauces of French cuisine designated the five "mother sauces" by Auguste Escoffier), ricotta, white cheddar and topped with an egg. Coming in at $9, this was a super good deal and extremely tasty.

I got their French Toast Sticks, which were slathered in roasted apples, crispy bacon and bourbon-maple syrup. $13 was a tad bit pricier, but very much still worth it and DELICIOUS.

There's give and take when it comes to dining out. Sometimes you eat healthy, and sometimes you don't give a shit and order the best sounding thing on the menu. No regrets here.

It's always a relief to find those special places that not only deliver in flavor and presentation, but also don't rob you of half a week's paycheck. Because let's face it, not being able to afford rent just because you want to feed your foodie soul is way not cool.

I look forward to trying this place out for Happy Hour or Dinner next! Definitely worth the trip back.
